The Institute for European Studies is in charge of the EUCE's research activities. Through its seminars, colloquiums, roundtables, conferences and publications, the Institute creates a synergy among researchers from Quebec working on Europe and the EU.
The IES' research programme focuses mainly on:
- The EU's external relations and the transatlantic relations
- Social Europe, governance and democracy
- Immigration, diversity and multiculturalism
- Legal and institutional consolidation and unification
The research axes are respectively supervised by:
Frédéric Mérand (UdeM-Political science) is in charge of the «EU's external relations and the transatlantic relations» axis.
Axel van den Berg (McGill-Sociology) is in charge of the «Social Europe, governance and democracy» axis.

Éléonore Lépinard (UdeM-Political science) is in charge of the «Immigration, diversity and multiculturalism» axis.
Helge Dedek (McGill-Law) is in charge of the «Legal and institutional consolidation and unification» axis.
