The EU Ambassador in Canada visits the EUCE Montreal

H.E. Marie-Anne Coninsx, Ambassador of the European Union in Canada, visited McGill University, the Université de Montréal and the EUCE on Friday, January 31. The Ambassador's visit started with a meeting with undergraduate students from McGill's Department of political science during professor Sven-Oliver Proksch's class on the European Union. Professor Juliet Johnson, codirector of the EUCE at McGill, also attended this meeting. In the afternoon, Ms. Coninsx also had the chance to talk with a group of students and researchers from the Université de Montréal interested in the European Union during a seminar moderated by professor George Ross.

Discussions first revolved around the Canada-EU strategic partnership, and then moved on to intensive questions and answers dealing with current EU affairs such as the way out of the eurozone crisis, the upcoming parliamentary elections, or the rise of extreme-right movements and of euroskepticism.

Besides, the Ambassador also met with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at McGill and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at UdeM, as well as with representatives of the Board of Education in both universities. Following the new grant awarded to the EUCE by the European Commission for the next three years, they discussed opportunities for future collaborations between both partner universities and the Delegation of the EU in Ottawa.
